The '67 Mustang Fastback is the one. The redesigned body for '67 finally gave the Mustang the muscle car proportions it always deserved — wider, longer, more aggressive, with that gorgeous sloping rear deck flowing in one uninterrupted line from the roof to the tail. Concave taillight panel out back, scooped sides, a hood that finally looked like it had something serious underneath — and Ford made sure it did. New 390 cubic inch FE big-block on the option sheet for the first time, joining the small-block 289 and 271-horsepower Hi-Po. Carroll Shelby took this exact body and turned it into the GT350 and the legendary GT500. Bullitt put a Highland Green '68 fastback (essentially the same body) on the screen with Steve McQueen and turned it into eternal cinema. Gone in 60 Seconds fans know this shape as Eleanor.
