The 1991 Mazda 787B is the only Japanese car to ever win the 24 Hours of Le Mans — and the only rotary-powered car to ever win it. Period. The win was so dominant, so unexpected, and so threatening to the rotary engine's competitive future that the FIA banned rotary engines from Le Mans the following season — sealing the 787B's place as the only car of its kind ever to win the world's greatest endurance race.
