The 4B11T is the engine that closed out the legendary Lancer Evolution era. After nine generations of the iron-block 4G63T building Mitsubishi's entire rally and tuning empire, the Evo X arrived in 2008 with an all-new aluminum-block 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four — the 4B11T — and quietly changed everything about what a modern Evolution engine could do. Lighter than the cast-iron 4G63 it replaced. New reverse-flow cylinder head architecture. Balance shafts for smoother operation at high RPM. MIVEC variable valve timing. A modern engine designed from the ground up for the Evo X chassis. Stock from the factory: 291 horsepower in standard trim, 303 in MR and Final Edition spec, with 300 lb-ft of torque. But like every great Evo engine before it, the 4B11T's real magic lives in its aftermarket potential. The aluminum block can handle big power. The head flows well. The turbo system responds aggressively to upgrades. Bolt-ons take the 4B11T to 400+ horsepower easily. Built engines with upgraded turbos push 600, 700, even 800+ horsepower on built bottom ends. Time Attack and drag racing builds regularly push the platform into four-digit horsepower territory. The 4B11T became the foundation of the Evo X's reputation as one of the most overlooked but absolutely capable platforms of the entire 2010s — and Mitsubishi tuners worldwide built the engine into a modern tuning legend.
