The Evo X is the final chapter of one of the greatest performance car bloodlines in history. After nine generations of the iron-block 4G63T building Mitsubishi's entire rally and tuning legend, the Evo X (2008-2016) marked a complete redesign — and the bittersweet end of the Evolution name. Out went the legendary 4G63T. In came the all-new 4B11T — an aluminum-block 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 291 horsepower at launch (later 303 in MR and Final Edition trims), now with reverse-flow head architecture, balance shafts, and all the modern engineering that the iron-block 4G63 was eventually going to need replacing. The Evo X also brought sharper bodywork — that aggressive jet fighter-inspired front end, prominent shark-nose grille treatment, those distinct headlight signatures that made every other Lancer look completely tame.
Mechanically, the X added Mitsubishi's S-AWC (Super All-Wheel Control) — combining Active Center Differential, Active Yaw Control, ABS, and Active Stability Control into one integrated system that makes the X cling to roads in conditions that should make traction laws of physics file complaints. Manual transmission models with the GSR/RS spec, the dual-clutch SST automatic on TC-SST trims, and the legendary Final Edition (just 1,600 units globally, the last factory Evos ever built) — every Evo X carries the absolute final form of the Evolution name.
