Hakosuka is where the GT-R legend was born. 1969, Nissan introduces the PGC10 Skyline GT-R — followed by the iconic two-door KPGC10 in 1970 — and quietly drops one of the most exotic engines ever produced in Japan into a boxy four-door sedan that nobody saw coming. Hako means "box" in Japanese. Suka is short for Skyline. Together: the box-shaped Skyline. Underneath that no-nonsense bodywork: the legendary S20 inline-six — a 2.0-liter, twin-cam, 24-valve, triple-Weber-fed screamer derived directly from the Prince R380 race car program, making it one of the most exotic production engines Japan had ever built. Then Nissan went racing — and the Hakosuka GT-R won 50 touring car races in just three years, dominating Japanese motorsport so completely that it cemented the GT-R name as something nobody took lightly. Riveted overfender flares, those legendary GT-R fender badges, single round headlights, that proud upright grille — the original GT-R is still one of the coolest, cleanest, most historically significant Japanese cars ever built.
